The officials discussed a wide range of issues of mutual interest.

Within the framework of the Russian delegation’s visit to the Turkish Republic, Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

During the meeting, the officials discussed a wide range of issues of mutual interest, bilateral economic cooperation, and matters related to combating terrorism and resolving the situation in Syria.

The meeting was also attended by Deputy Federation Council Speaker Iliyas Umakhanov.

While summing up the results of the visit to the media, the Speaker took note of the fruitful and constructive nature of the dialogue. In the course of the meetings with the leadership of the country and the Turkish parliamentarians, the officials reached agreements on intensifying the interparliamentary and interregional links between the two countries.

“We are witnessing growth in bilateral trade as well as progress in economic cooperation,” Matvienko noted. “The TurkStream and Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant projects are currently underway. Serious investment agreements were signed. The tourism industry is developing actively. There is a great potential for cooperation, and both countries’ leadership share this sentiment.”
