The Speaker of the Federation Council met with Speaker of the National Assembly of the State of Kuwait.
Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko met with Speaker of the National Assembly of the State of Kuwait Marzouq Al-Ghanim.
In the course of the conversation the Speaker of the Federation Council stressed that at present, a parliamentary dialogue is most needed and important under the current very complicated international situation. She expressed confidence that the visit by the Speaker of the National Assembly of Kuwait to Russia would step up not only interparliamentary relations but also the range of relations between the two nations.
“We appreciate the traditionally friendly relations between Russia and Kuwait, which were 55 years old last year. Our relations have been tested by time; they rest on a solid foundation of mutual cooperation and respect,” Valentina Matvienko said.
Marzouq Al-Ghanim asked to pass on a message of greetings from Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah IV Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Marzouq Al-Ghanim invited Valentina Matvienko to pay an official visit to Kuwait.
During the meeting, Ms Matvienko suggested establishing a cooperation group between the Federation Council and the National Assembly of Kuwait in the near future. Marzouq Al-Ghanim expressed interest in establishing such a group.
Ms Matvienko also raised the issue of Russian citizen Maria Lazareva, who is currently imprisoned in Kuwait.
